‘Raisin’ Awareness for Feeding America
Feeding America

More than 12 million children in America are at risk of hunger. Despite classrooms being back in session, a time when many children will find some relief in going back to the free or reduced-price school meals, help is still needed on weekends and school breaks when assistance is not available. That’s why California Raisins has partnered with “Days of our Lives” actress and “The Biggest Loser” host Alison Sweeney to raise awareness about Feeding America’s childhood hunger initiatives, including the BackpackĀ Program.

ABOUT THE BACKPACK PROGRAM

  • Backpacks are filled with food that children take home on weekends
  • Food is child-friendly, nonperishable, easily consumed and vitamin fortified
  • Backpacks are discreetly distributed to children on the last day before the weekend or holiday vacation
  • There are 120 Feeding America members operating more than 2,900 Backpack Programs serving more than 190,000 children each year.

HOW CALIFORNIA RAISIN GROWERS ARE HELPING

As part of our effort to raise awareness of Feeding America’s childhood hunger initiatives and to contribute to the fight against domestic hunger, California raisin growers are donating a semi-truck load of raisin snack packs and $50,000 to support Feeding America.
